The new legislation has made a number of important changes in the areas of unfair dismissal, the making of agreements, and dispute resolution. It has also introduced two new bodies, Fair Work Australia and the Fair Work Ombudsman. While many changes have already taken place, others will be implemented in the coming months. For example, the Australian Fair Pay and Conditions Standard (AFPCS) will be replaced by a National Employment Standard on 1 January 2010. It is important, then, that both employers and employees are fully aware of their rights and obligations under the new system.
